A Christmas Treat: The Fakest Book

/ 2 min read

My partner has been following Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the surrounding drama for quite a while, and we’ve enjoyed watching many of the documentaries and shows about her story. When she found out that Gypsy Rose had released a book it obviously made the cut for her Christmas list, so I hopped onto Amazon. I probably spent less than a minute placing the order from start to finish:

search 'Gypsy Rose Blanchard'
there's the book
'Buy Now'
'yes really buy it'
done

Weeks later, on Christmas morning, she opened the book and started to read. At first it seemed a little off, but maybe Gypsy just isn’t a good author?

The more we read, the more it became clear that I’d been duped. The book in our hands was in fact not Gypsy Rose’s at all. It was what seemed like a book full of ChatGPT generated content that used a cover almost exactly similar to Gypsy’s, except for the fake author’s name and additional title.

Entirely my fault for getting duped. We purchased the correct book, and you can see the difference between the two here:

Notice the second line of small text underneath her name and the very high-quality whitespace around the book’s border.

Here is some of the riveting content:
