Joining Inngest
I've left my full time role as director of software engineering at SBLive to pursue a very cool new company, Inngest.
I joined SBLive in 2019, left for Tuft and Needle, and then ended up returning to SBLive. During my time there, the product went from being a relatively niche app and site to being a powerhouse of the industry. I firmly believe that during my time at SBLive we built some of the coolest and hands down best features available in high school athletics. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at SBLive, from my first ever trip to San Diego and Padres game to the technical challenges faced by a growing startup.
After exploring opportunities at several companies, including getting an offer from Shopify1, I ultimately chose Inngest, which is a workflow orchestration platform. It’s super cool, and something for which I can definitely see myself having been a gracious customer. The company is small but growing rapidly, and there are some really interesting technical challenges that they’re tackling, so I’m excited to step in as a contributing member of the team. Their platform allows you to orchestrate jobs both synchronous and asynchronous through their SDKs in a way that’s very intuitive and easy to understand, and the challenge of reliably running billions of jobs every day is right up my alley. Another great perk is that a lot of the code that I’ll be working on is open source, which makes me very happy. In fact, this is actually the first code commit I’ve made to the company’s codebase.
Outside of the normal “first day of school” jitters, I’m a little spooked because this is actually the first job I’ve had since college where my primary day-to-day didn’t involve Ruby. Inngest offers a variety of SDKs but the core of the product is written in Go, which I’ve spent this week learning more about. The first time that .to_s
and .sort
didn’t work, I was a little taken aback, but I’ve enjoyed doing something new and think that I’m definitely going to enjoy Go.
Cheers to the next chapter! 🍻

It’s hard to believe I turned down an offer from Shopify. It speaks to how excited I am for Inngest. Fingers crossed that it was the right choice! ↩
